Uno Mobile Sim Card ... 5 Stars,
by Yoda, 2010-09-09
Though the Uno Mobile sim card worked well for me and I could recharge it on line with the CarreFour Uno Mobile web site, Amazon had no technical support at all. Had it not been for an Italian speaking friend, I might have been at a total loss. The printed instructions sent with the card by Amazon were insufficient to properly and easily use the card. Following Amazon's instructions I almost voided the sim card. Thank you to CarreFour Uno Mobile for their technical support via email. If you plan to purchase this sim card, keep this email addresds on file to recharge your card or to ask for help. The site is however in Italian. Amazon did not even supply this email address ... I found it by trial and error and the help of a friend in Italy. Amazon ... Shame on YOU .... If you're going to sell a product, then be prepared to support it!
DO NOT BUY THIS ITEM !,

I should have listened, I should have listened, I should have listened...
Spent a long time planning our "trip of a lifetime" to Italy, and wanted to be sure we could stay in touch with people at home while we were in Rome and Florence. I bought this Uno Mobile Sim Card based on Amazon's reputation, the fact that it was pre-activated and ready to go on landing and that "supposedly" it could be recharged in a number of places.
Last point could not have been more wrong! Nobody had ever heard of UNO Mobile; none of the Tabocco shops had the recharge codes, the ATM's did not show this card as an option and as for recharging at a Carrefour...just try and find a Carrefour in the heart of either Rome or Florence. The prepaid minutes on the card ran out after about two days and the phone would not work for making calls after that.
I strongly recommend AGAINST buying this card - it was the only irritant in what otherwise was a wonderful trip. Amazon, find a way of offering either the TIM or Vodaphone cards - they can be recharged anywhere!
Useful, With Caveats,

This sim card works great if all you plan on doing is texting and talking. Forget about data.
If you can't find a tabacchi that sells recharge vouchers for this sim card, you can add value online at [...].
For T-mobile USA users, if you have an active account in good standing for at least 6 months, you can request the unlock code for your phone. Make sure to do this well in advance of your trip, as the turnaround time is at least 2 weeks long.
Beware,

I bought this through Amazon and believed all that they wrote about it. The card works good and is easy to install and get started. However, good luck finding any where in Rome and the surrounding area to recharge it. No one seems to have heard of the company. I tried going on line and following their instructions.. Worthless.. Could not find a place. So if you want to use it for incoming calls, it may work otherwise, dont waste your money like I did.
It's not that complicated,

I have to say I freaked out a little when I read about the problems people had recharging the card, but turned out it was dead easy.
This was my first trip to Italy -- and I speak zero Italian. When I'd exhausted the credit that came with the original card, I walked into the tabacchi next door to my hotel in Florence, went to the woman selling lottery tickets, waved my phone and uttered "Oo-no mo-bee-lay." She nodded, asked me whether I wanted 5, 10 or 20 Euros, punched the keys on her machine and handed me a slip with a recharge code and instructions on how to use it (dial 401002 and follow the English instructions). Couldn't have been any easier.
The caveat, of course, is that I only tried once -- maybe I got lucky. But I was staying in a non-touristy part of town, only locals in the store.
So I think this is a great deal, especially once you get to Italy, since you're paying no additional mark-up for the minutes.
