Customer Reviews
Durable & Good-looking, with some big flaws,
by MariaSmiles "me", 2010-07-17
Using my e71 for over a year without a case, it got quite dinged up (adds character?). So, when I plunked down $3xx for an e72, I figured a case would be a good idea. I wanted something durable and good-looking, with a great fit. So, over 2 months ago, I bought this otter box 3-pc case (screen protector film, flex silicone encasement, & hard plastic outer shell). The reviews looked good (thanks for the info, guys!) and I liked the idea of both a soft shock-absorbing part, as well as a hard part for durability (didn't realize it came with a screen film until it arrived).
PROS:
- 3-piece case fulfills my protection requirements (hard & squishy w/screen coverage)
- fits around my e72 snugly, no gaps, etc. When it's on, it actually looks like part of the phone, not a case.
- not TOO bulky (some girth tho, which may make the phone easier to hold for people with bigger hands - mine are smaller)
- most functions accessible with case on (see note below about headset port & audio)
- looks high-quality, not junky (IMHO)
CONS:
- when the case is on, callers often comment on poor audio quality (not when the case is off)
- even tho I have appropriately-lengthed nails, sometimes, it's challenging to get the "plugs" unlatched for the charger & the headset ports (probably keeps out dust & moisture well, if that's a concern for you).
- the "plug" that goes into the headphone jack is long and makes the phone register that there is something there that needs to be tended to (it will ask me if there is a headset, music stand, etc. when I put the silicone "plug" in, but not when unlatched, or when the case is off)
- also when the case is on, the default headset that came with my phone does not "sit" fully in the port, so the headset connection is often "lost" mid-call, and I'm left to frantically switch to loudspeaker mid-sentence. Obvi, if I'm using the headset, then usually my hands are busy doing other things and "fixing" the connection is quite a hassle. I think this is due to the case being too thick at that point, or the hole for the jack isn't big enough to seat my headset connector. Again, when the case is off, no problems with this whatsoever.
- the silicone "patch" that sticks out from the back doesn't really stick out enough to grip (as another reviewer mentioned). When my phone gets hot, sometimes this part does puff out a little, but doesn't really do anything to aid grippy-ness on a smooth, sloped surface.
- no rear camera-lens protection
- loss of access to the wrist-strap holes (with the case on, without a mod - I don't use the wrist-strap, but might be important feature to others)
- it only comes in black (I know this is a personal choice, but, in a world full of black devices, it is a minor con for me...I loved my white e71)
For a case that was obviously so smartly designed and well-manufactured in certain areas, it is unfortunately quite poorly designed and/or manufactured in other, very important areas. Some reviewers seem to have similar issues, while others seem to have no issues.
I've been tempted to return or exchange it (maybe I got a bad one?), but in my search to replace it, I haven't been able to find another case that has the high durability and design factor (overall) of this case. I could also mod the case, but at this price, I really shouldn't need to be trimming and cutting and taking the risk of damaging the function or polish of this otherwise fine-looking case.
I hate to be the first 2-star review, and I hesitated for a while to even mention these issues, but in my experience, the cons (which are mostly function-based) really outweigh the pros (which are mostly aesthetic-based). Yes, it seems to protect the device body from life's little dents & dings, but if I can't use the *phone* effectively to make/receive calls while the case is on, then the fact that there's protection becomes alot less relevant.
would say one of the best cases,

I am so very much satisfied with this case. bought this from amazon at a descent price. initially thought that paying this much for a case is not worth, but after using it for almost a month, i would say it is worth it.
no complaints and would definitely recommend it for Nokia e72 users.
Great E72 Case,
by I. C. Ch, 2010-06-05
The case is sturdy and well made. Once put on the E72, it is secured to the cellphone itself. It is two parts, a silicon case all over the cell phone and a hard plastic that wraps itself around on the back. It is not loose at all.
To me it has two minor flaws. On the back there's a square of silicon exposed. I don't know if this was designed to show the brand of the case (Otterbox), or to provide friction on the case on flat surfaces. If the second was meant to be, it doesn't serve it's purpose well as other reviewer pointed out, and would have been a simple great addition. The other minor flaw is that I used to have the strap on my E72 (the one included by Nokia), and this case doesn't provide a hole openning for my strap. On the other hand, the case covers the corners (where the strap is), so I think it is probably better to sacrifice the strap then protection. As these as minor flaws, it deserves the full 5 stars.
I would definetely buy it again and highly recommended for anyone looking to protect your E72. High quality case, well worth the money.
It also comes with a screen protector, just in case.
Great Case,
by KP, 2010-06-01
I have been using this case for about 2 months now. So far, I'm immensly satisfied with it, I couldn't ask for much more.
The case comes in two pieces, a silicone "skin", and a hard shell that covers the back half of the phone. The silicon skin fits the phone very snugly. All the holes line up where they are supposed to on the phone and it doesn't shift. The skin also has plugs that fit over the headphone and power jacks, which I guess could be good for keeping dirt out. The hard shell also fits to the skin very snugly.
The hard shell wraps around the back of the phone and it's sides, leaving the screen and keyboard open. Another point noted by others is that the case levels out the back of the phone making it a little less likely that you will scratch the camera lens.
As far as actual functionality of the case, I have dropped my phone on several occasions on pavement and concrete, etc. It has served it's purpose well. It kept my phone safe and scratch free. I'd say the case could protect your phone through almost any "usual" accident such as falling out of your pocket on to hard floors, etc.
The thing that I like most about this case is that it totally makes the phone look different. The phone still looks sleek and impressive. In fact, I feel that the phone looks better with the case on. I have had several friends ask me if I got a new phone after I put this case on. The case makes the device feel much more durable as a whole. It doesn't add much width to the phone so it still slips in and out of the pocket with ease. This how Nokia should of made it in the first place! SO worth it.
One flaw is that the case adds just enough width to the phone that it interferes with plugging in the headphones. I also saw this problem in another review. The problem is when you plug in the headphones they sometimes don't fit all the way in to the headphone jack. Mine works fine but it could be a problem with headphones that have larger plugs.
The case also requires periodic cleaning. I often take my phone to work and it collects some dust. But the fact I'm taking my phone in to work speaks for itself.
In Summary:
The case is well worth the money. It does what it is supposed to do and in my opinion adds some aesthetic beauty to the device. I would highly recommend it. The defects really are pretty minor. I don't see how you could find much of a better case for day to day protection against the occasional drop or bump.
Great for the price, quality and style!,
by BrazilianMom, 2010-05-09
I wasted a lot of time looking for the best protection for my Nokia e72. I should just had purchased this right the way instead of wasting time reading reviews and looking for the best one. This is the best one! My final choices were this one or the Otterbox Defender. I gave up on the Defender after reading several reviews on how big and hard to take off pockets. After seeing in person both I totally could not wait to get this one and I love it. A little camera screen protector is all what is missing from the deal. Great price for the quality too! Newegg's price is very competitive. Amazon has faster shipping! This case has it all, style, protection, very good quality. It feels great, perfect fit, not loose at all. Buy it now and stop reading reviews now!
