has significant problems,
by N. Smith, 2010-06-22

Pros: Practical quick clamp and release button. vent mount is nice and close to steering wheel.

Cons: padding on the clamps hits volume control on my HTC Hero, often turns volume all the way down. does not stay in the air vents of my 08 Colorado truck. keeps falling out onto floor. tried rotating clips and adjusting location, still doesn't work. Poor design.

Will be looking for something else.

Broke after 3 months,
by Sterminator, 2010-06-14

Initially, I liked the device, as it allowed me to mount my Android smartphone near the steering wheel, which is convienient when using Google Navigation.

The device, however, has one big design flaw. While the rest of the device if fairly well built, the little "aligator teeth" pieces that are supposed to clamp onto your vent, are built from a thin and cheap plastic. Over time, this plastic weakens and breaks at the weakest point. I don't understand why Arkon chose to make the most important part of the mount from this inadequate plastic, since this is the part that has to hold all the weight!

I just ordered Arkon GN047 Removable Vent Mount for Nuvi & StreetPilot so I can salvage the clips from it and replace the one that broke. This mount will not be a good purchase if I have to keep buying them every 3 months...

works perfect with my iphone with any case,

easy to use, not easy to remove,
by A. Hansen, 2010-05-09

I purchased this car mount (on Amazon) last week for my new Droid, so that I can use its GPS feature. Dash mount and windshield mount versions wouldn't work well for me, so I found this one, a vent mount with the swiveling feature. It allows me to reposition the phone as needed based on the angle of the sun. It can be used for pretty much any smartphone, it's not specific to any make or model. Some mounts don't work well with cases, but this works just fine because you put the phone in the mount and then squeeze the sides until they fit your phone perfectly. Then I rotate it to landscape and I'm good to go. It doesn't block the mini-USB port so I can easily charge it (a must-have if using the battery-draining GPS feature).

The only negative about this mount is the difficulty of removing the vent clips. This is due to the angled design of the horizontal vents in my car. I don't know if others would have that problem, and don't know how well it would work with vertical vents.

Also, I'm not sure how well it works for people who want to use the phone for calls, because I turn my ringer off and don't talk or text while driving. Studies have shown that distracted driving is just as dangerous as drunk driving, and a car mount won't make that any safer. It's a soapbox issue for me because my sisters were in a bad car accident caused by a texting driver who blew a red light going 50mph. Oprah's gotten on her high horse with a "No Phone Zone" campaign, and I'm right there with her (even though I'm not in her target demographic). If you really need to use the phone that badly, just pull over.

Gets the Job Done,
by Tomato, 2010-04-11

Please note the cradle is not the same as pictured on the website. The cradle shipped has 2 closed loops on the sides and it seems smaller. I bought it for my Motorola Droid. It seems a bit small, but it gets the job done. Mounting it to the vents is straight forward. I have a Subaru Forester and the vents can move up or down, so it's not very sturdy. However, I still prefer vent mount than having suction cup on the window since it's more discreet
