Got 2, one of them worked for a week...,

I bought two of these cables, one for work and one for my car. One of them fell apart when I pulled on the cable for the first time. The other cable worked for a week, but now the locking mechanism wont lock, which is very annoying. For the week that it did work, it was great, but the quality control on this product is horrible.

I purchased this after losing my original charger/data cord for my HTC Droid Incredible. After purchasing numerous cords that did not allow my computer to recognize my phone, this is the first one that works for charging AND data transfer.
As a bonus, this also works perfectly with my Kindle. It is lightweight, and the cord is easy to unwind as advertised.

I bought it cuz it looked cheap and decent. Turns out it was just cheap.
I used it for a couple weeks, for plugging my Droid into my computer. Probably extended/retracted it a dozen or so times.
Then it broke. The internal spring popped out of the center that the cord wraps around. After I messed with it to get it back in, the cable only retracts halfway.
Halfway working is broken, in my book, despite the data transmission aspect still being fine.
I'm going to go buy a better quality cable, if I can find one for a reasonable price.

When I travel, I like to travel carry-on only, so the more I can compact my gadgets the better. I originally saw this in the SkyMall catalog with for fifty bucks, I knew Amazon could beat that! This cable paired with a Scosche HC12V Dual USB Car and Home Charger replaces my Motorola Droid wall and car charger and takes up only slightly more space than the wall charger and a cable. If my wife's going with me, I bring 2 cables and we charge both of our phones at night without a lot of added bulk.

This is an edited review... heavily. When I first got this I was pretty hard on it because the mechanism seemed sort of cheap. If you pull the cable out on one side only you get a tangle, but as long as you remember to pull both ends at once it works fine.
After using it for over a week and understanding it better, and taking into consideration that I only paid $8 for it, I very much changed my mind about it. I think this is a great little item to keep in a laptop bag. The cord length is short, but that works out well for what I use this for. It rolls up nice and neatly, and the cable is thin and flat so it doesn't get in your way when you have it out.
All in all, a nice product. I feel bad that I ever wrote a bad review for it, I think I just needed some more time with it.
